Water For Development

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S BRIEFING

Dr. Emmanuel Adanu

Executive Director

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the National Water Resources Institute Website. The National Water Resources Institute (NWRI) being a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources; located in Kaduna was established in October 1979 as a project under the Federal Department of Water Resources to address the national needs in water resources training was later legally established through the enactment of the “National Water Resources Institute” (NWRI) Decree No. 3 of March 2nd, 1985 and currently as National Water Resources Institute Act, Cap No. 83, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

It has its mandate covering all forms of ‘training and re-training of water engineers and technologists, technicians and craftsmen in the water resources sector.’ The Institute is guided by a philosophy to train well rounded effective personnel for the middle level manpower needs of the Water sector. The educational activities of NWRI help produce the technical manpower needed to serve in the water related establishments in the country. It also has links (to its advantage in training) with International bodies like the UNESCO, EEC, WMO, UNICEF and Water related agencies locally and abroad.

NWRI at some time ago ran these programs at National- and Higher National- Diploma levels in both Civil Engineering and Water Resources Engineering Technology respectively until 2006 when they were suspended but are now vividly seen to be vital to the effective engineering and operation of the water sector.
